Phil E. Vinall: Vice President
I have been working in the field of medicine and science all of my adult life. After graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in Neurobiology I had the privilege to work with internationally known physiologists Andrew and Avril Somlyo when they wrote their groundbreaking publications Vascular Smooth Muscle I and II.
While at the Neuroscience Research Institute at Pennsylvania Hospital I published a number of manuscripts on cerebral smooth muscle, cerebral vasospasm, ischemia, and stroke. Other research interests included the circadian rhythm of stroke, ischemic insult, changes in cerebral blood flow in hibernating animals, and the impact of hospitalization and surgery on patient circadian rhythms. This last work led to a publication on hospital design. I have received recognition and support for my work from the Rolex Foundation, the Sharpe Foundation, and Pennsylvania Hospital.
After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, I joined Wyeth Pharmaceuticals where I developed an in-house publication program. This writing group eventually peaked at 47 individuals whose responsibilities included developing clinical manuscripts, publication planning, writing SOPs, maintaining databases, liaising with outside vendors, and managing submission and compliance issues.
